Some months ago, Meta launched its Llama-powered generative AI chatbot directly within WhatsApp, therefore making it possible to invoke a state-of-the-art AI model right from within the application confines that users were already using. Now, Meta will be testing another new way of getting to its AI on WhatsApp with voice prompts, similar to ChatGPT and Gemini.
Currently, Meta AI only supports WhatsApp in text mode. According to a report by WABetaInfo, a feature in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.24.18.18 has been tested for voice commands with Meta AI as input.
Now, the new Meta AI, Meta’s most recent multimodal large language generative AI model, comprehends text, voice, and images and can also generate them. It is not known if Meta AI, when prompted with a voice command, would respond in voice or text.

According to the screenshots, WhatsApp users will have multiple ways to revoke Meta AI: a floatable window on the home screen, and a new microphone icon near the text input area. If it is actively listening to the user, there will be a visual indicator-a green bubble at the top right corner-on an Android phone.
WhatsApp recently added features powered by new Meta AI capabilities, including access to Llama 3.1-a gigantic 405B model-and understanding new languages like Hindi, the ability for image editing, generating custom avatars, and more. Some of these features have not yet rolled out to the Indian market.
